Is Google I/O 2011 ticketing waiting on a new Cold Fusion programmer?
So here’s what we know about Google I/O 2011. Last year there was pre-registration as we wrote in a previous post, and tickets went on sale in the beginning of January.
As we can see the I/O 2011 website has no robots.txt file or sitemap.xml file to see if the code has been completed. It is a Microsoft IIS server with Cold Fusion being run by WebEvents Global LLC. It has a DNS record pointed to ns1.wegnetwork.com (owned by WebEvents LLC) to make it look like it belongs in the Google family even though it’s hosted elsewhere. Though regular 404 error pages have not been handled and show the default Microsoft IIS error page, you can see that the server belongs to WebEvents Global through an error page they actually bothered to handle here.
What could possibly be holding up selling tickets for the 2011 event?
I called WebEvents Global LLC this morning, and asked when tickets were going on sale, and they said they didn’t know.
How could something so simple be such a mystery?
Let’s look at the 2011 site so far.
url: https://www.google-io.com/2011/ ( WebEvents Global has since taken down this page, see below )
It’s been this way for the past year. I am guessing here and I can’t confirm it, but it looks like they may be short one cold fusion programmer.
Look at this job advertisement on Blogspot.
It’s from January 5th, 2011. Did WebEvents just hire a Cold Fusion programmer to update the I/O 2011 website and ticketing system? Did they even find somebody to fill the role? If they did it’s kind of late considering the event is in little more than three months and is promoted to thousands of developers world wide.
Here is our tweet to Google VP Vic Gundotra who recently tweeted about the Google I/O 2011 conference registration date. I think that he probably couldn’t answer.
So do we need a random Cold Fusion programmer to go play code monkey in Roseville, California for a few days?
UPDATE – Jan 11, 2010: WebEvents Global has since taken down the page at https://www.google-io.com/2011/. This could be a sign that registration will be opening soon. You can still view the 2010 registration page here.
